Ignorance is Loud by Charlotte Cosgrove

People will fight for freedom for all

When it is their freedom they believe is under attack.

You can’t say anything anymore, they say.

A spade is a spade is a spade, they say.

And they go with their placards and banners -

Like heads on sticks

Let us out, they shout.

I watch this from home, on the telly,

And they say, people are still dying.

But I can’t hear this. All I hear is

Let us out. Let us out. Let us out.

They say it is their choice to wear a mask,

Or not.

They say this has been going on too long.

Enough is enough, they say.

People are dying, I say.

They imagine a future the same as the past

I imagine a future that knows the past.

They can’t hear me through their marching

And chanting -

A spade is a spade is a spade.
